Prince Albert and Charlene wedding details revealed

Thursday September 30, 2010

Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock have revealed plans for their royal wedding with a difference.

The ruler of the principality has defied convention by choosing to marry his sweetheart in an outdoor religious ceremony in front of 1,000 people on July 3 next year.

"The religious ceremony won’t be in the cathedral on the Saturday, but [outside] on the Place du Palais," he explained.

This will offer visiting heads of state and other important dignitaries the chance to witness the special day, but also allow the couple to maintain a sense of intimacy.

Albert, 52, and Charlene, 32, have stated they intend to officially tie the knot in a private civil ceremony in the Grimaldi palace - the previous day, surrounded by just fifty of their closest family and friends.

Relive the couple’s romantic love story
