Ronan Keating leads musical tribute to Stephen Gately

Monday November 30, 2009

Musical stars from stage and screen turned out for a West End tribute to late Boyzone singer Stephen Gately at the weekend.

The private evening of performances at London's Palace Theatre was attended by Stephen's best pals and bandmates, Ronan Keating and Keith Duffy (pictured), Shayne Lynch and Mikey Graham.

Stephen's partner Andrew Cowles and parents - who organised the event - were also in attendance.

Among the acts on stage was Chesney Hawkes singing his hit One and Only, Bobby Davro with a medley of Frank Sinatra and Beatles songs, and dancers performing the Riverdance.

Andrew - who was with Stephen in Majorca when he tragically passed away - made an emotional speech to end the concert.

"He said he hadn't realised he lost his soulmate until he was gone. He said Stephen... lit up the room whenever he was there," an audience member says.

"He made people laugh and cry and he cried a little towards the end."
