Tributes have been pouring in for Nicole Richie's former fiancé DJ AM, who was found dead in his apartment at the weekend

Writing on Twitter, Paris Hilton, who had known him since the age of 15, said: "R.I.P. AM, I love you and you are already missed so much. My heart and prayers go out to his family and close friends. God bless. :("

Just minutes earlier she had written: "It's so hard to accept that I'm not going to be able to see him or talk to him again. There are no right words for this, I feel so sad. :("

Others posting on the social networking site included Lindsay Lohan, who wrote: "i can't believe this.. i'm in shock. why? why? r.i.p. adam."

Jennifer Anniston's ex John Mayer also expressed his sadness. "We're supposed to lose our friends to time, at an age when we're ready to agree to the terms of having lived a long life. Not now," he wrote

Demi Moore said the DJ, real name Adam Goldstein, had a "joyous spirit", while Beyonce's sister Solange said he was a "walking miracle".

Exact details surrounding his death are still unclear, but sources say police are looking into the possibility of a drug overdose.

Adam, who was 36 when he died, had recently spoken openly about his battles with substance addiction. There were also reports in the US he had been devastated over a break-up with girlfriend Hayley Wood.

The musician survived a plane crash last year that killed four people and seriously injured Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker.
