Music industry veterans like Kanye West, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Lionel Richie are putting family first in Harper’s Bazaar’s Icons 2018: First Families of Music edition, and the photographs couldn't be more stunning. In the heartwarming spread, the stars share their wisdom and hopes for their kids’ futures, whether they're grown like Nicole Richie and Liv Tyler, or still little, like North and Saint West and Moroccan and Monroe Cannon.
In a stunning black-and-white photo, famed rapper Kanye, who’s married to reality TV mogul Kim Kardashian, posed holding two of their children. North sits on his shoulders with her arms around her dad as he cradles Saint in his arms for a rare look into Kanye’s life as a dad. “I hope my children never lose their confidence to society,” the 41-year-old father of three told the magazine.
Mariah, who is the mother to adorable seven-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe, was another sure choice for this issue. Stunning in a beautiful multi-coloured dress, the star stood flanked by her son and daughter on either side, along with their family pooch. “Family is the most important thing to me. My children have provided me with such joy as they’ve developed their own unique personalities,” she gushed, adding that they are each other’s best friends, despite their different hobbies.
The legendary singer, 48, shares her kids with ex-husband Nick Cannon, from whom she split in 2016. Still, he had nothing but praise for the sweet photograph. "[They] captured real authentic moments and you could see [with] the twins and Mariah, that was a true moment, like they all had genuine looks on their faces of happiness and joy," he told ET.
When it comes to their father-daughter relationship, Lionel and 36-year-old Nicole like to keep things fun! “My dad and I will do anything for a laugh. If that means we’re the butt of the joke, so bet it. In a nutshell, we’re desperate show ponies,” the fashion designer and TV personality said. Despite being the ultimate jokesters, the musical icon has a serious side, too. He told the magazine that he just wants his kids “to discover who they are and explore their passions to the fullest.”
Christina Aguilera also posed for a sweet black-and-white snap with her two little ones, 10-year-old Max, who she shares with ex Jordan Bratman, and three-year-old Summer Rain with her fiancé Matthew Rutler. The 37-year-old reveals that the role she holds above all else is motherhood. “I love being a mama bear and providing support, strength, and a safe haven to my babies and loved ones, knowing that, above all else, it’s the most important job I have.”
Other famous faces to grace the glossy pages include "Born in the USA" singer Bruce Springsteen and his daughter Jessica, Aerosmith icon Steven Tyler with his actress offspring Liv Tyler, Erykah Badu with her girls Mars and Puma, and Keith Richards' model daughters Alexandra and Theodora. "We are a traveling band of gypsies, this bunch," they sisters revealed of life with their Rolling Stone dad and extended family. "With everyone's crazy lives, it makes for great stories around the fireplace. Music, dancing, and laughter fill our home, and we make it so we're never apart for too long."
