Nicole Kidman delighted at her TIFF cast dinner while Carey Mulligan ducked out early (with good cause!)

The stars they were a’ shining last night in Toronto for the fifth night of TIFF celebrations thus far. Nicole Kidman! Prime Minister Justin Trudeau! Ryan Gosling! Paris Hilton!Alexander Skarsgard! Susan Sarandon! Carey Mulligan! Kit Harington! Claire Foy! Jason Sudeikis! These are only but a handful of the many boldface names popping up at parties here, there and everywhere.

At 5 pm on the dot, Carey Mulligan arrived at the Grey Goose vodka-hosted premiere party for her film Wildlife, in which she co-stars alongside Jake Gyllenhall. With her blonde hair down (and currently shoulder length), she donned a patterned blue halter dress that she told me was Chanel. The soundtrack of the party was decidedly ’60s as the elegant leading lady admitted that she had to head out a bit early to catch a flight home to her family (Hubby Marcus Mumford was on daddy duty back in London!) As we wrapped up our short and sweet reunion, someone handed her a long, camel coloured coat (with the tags still on!) and Carey made a beeline for the washroom at Soho House to change into an airplane-friendly outfit – her new coat in tow to keep newly chilled breezes at bay.

After the party wrapped I headed up the stairs to the second floor where Grey Goose was playing host once again to a cast dinner party, this time for Destroyer, starring Nicole Kidman. The Australian actress stunned in a cream Bottega Veneta power suit with ruffled blouse, her hair in a high pony with face-framing strands, alongside co-stars Tatiana Maslany, Sebastian Stan and Shamier Anderson. Nicole threw her head back in laughter as she chatted animatedly with her producer and a few others, radiating loveliness. She was also thoroughly down-to-earth when she climbed the Soho stairs to the washroom as opposed to using the one in the back kitchen, returning to air-kiss guests before heading to their Winter Garden premiere (this time via the kitchen!).

Back on the main floor, Grey Goose hosted its third soiree in honour of The Death & Life of John F. Donovan, the English debut from Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan (there with his mom Genevieve!). The film’s lead, newly married Kit Harington, arrived right on time and chatted live theatre with friends on the patio. Susan Sarandon arrived to the packed party shortly after and got cozy on the couch, sandwiched between two others. The iconic actress was also clad in a power suit, this one a three-piece navy number with a white collared shirt buttoned up to the very top, and posed happily with co-stars Thandie Newton and Emily Hampshire. Dan Levy was also on hand in support of the latter, his Schitt's Creek co-star!

Over at Patria on King West, a whole other type of star power was lighting up the scene. Nespresso and Audi hosted the First Man premiere party, with cast members Ryan Gosling (his family in tow!), Claire Foy, Corey Stoll and Oscar-winning director Damien Chazelle all in attendance. But the unexpected guest of honour was definitely Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (as we were first to report last night!). Following a panel discussion at the Women's Summit, Justin came to support his friend Ryan out on the patio, where cameras were prohibited so he could mix and mingle, security heavily in tow. Looking dapper in a navy suit and white shirt, the PM shook hands and gave his go-to thumbs up before dashing 20 minutes later.

RBC House was where the post-premiere party for A Million Little Pieces was feting star Aaron Taylor-Johnson , his wife and director of the film, Sam Taylor-Johnson, and cast member Odessa Young. Jamie Dornan made an oh-so-casual cameo celebrating his former Fifty Shades director, as did Alexander Skarsgard , who taught me the proper way to drink whiskey (on the rocks). We headed back to Soho House, where the main floor was buzzing, and I stepped outside for air to find a glittering Paris Hilton – silver dress, silver choker – down for some good conversation. The party ran into the wee hours of the night…
