MACCA'S MARITAL MYSTERY TOUR

Sir Paul McCartney is certainly giving fans, the media and even his guests a marital mystery tour, with the rumours about the time and place of his marriage to former model Heather Mills set to reach fever pitch.

Over the past few weeks, newspaper columnists on both sides of the Atlantic have confidently predicted that the former Beatle, who turns 60 on June 18, will wed Heather this Thursday, at the weekend or next Tuesday, at an Irish castle, or at a Scottish castle, or perhaps near New York City…

A German magazine published what it said was part of an official wedding invitation, but even that shed no light on the site of the ceremony. “Meeting point: Heathrow (airport in London) 0830… bring your passports, no mobile phones, no cameras,” it said.

But after weeks of media speculation unequalled since Madonna married Snatch director Guy Ritchie in Scotland in December 2000, a US columnist claims to have solved the mystery. The New York Post’s Cindy Adams reports the happy couple, who have sworn the 300 invited guests to secrecy, will wed next Tuesday at a local church in Glaslough, County Monaghan, Ireland, before heading for a champagne reception and Indian vegetarian dinner at the nearby Castle Leslie.

However the castle’s owners were quick to scotch the rumour, saying the reports were “absolutely not true”. “There are rumours going about but I can say it’s not happening here,” said a spokeswoman.

Adding further spice to the speculation, Ms Adams’ story contradicts that of another New York Post writer who said the ceremony would take place on Thursday or at the weekend in the Hamptons on New York’s Long Island. Columnist Neal Travis said it would be at the home of John Eastman, the brother of Paul’s late wife Linda.

There has also been talk that the couple would wed at Skibo Castle in Scotland, where Madonna and Guy held their wedding reception, or perhaps at a secret location in England.

Whatever the truth of the matter, Paul’s representatives are keeping mum to prevent a media circus hijacking the couple’s big day. “I don’t know anything about it,” said the pop icon’s representative, Geoff Baker. “I haven’t spoken to Paul about it.”

Paul himself says that the wedding preparations are “going fine”, despite further reports that the former Beatle threw Heather’s $40,000 diamond-sapphire engagement ring out of a Miami-area hotel window after an argument last month. The ring was found a couple of days after the couple left and Paul bought the hotel manager a plane ticket to London so he could hand-deliver it.
