LIZ LAUNCHES LEGAL BATTLE OVER BABY DAMIAN'S UPKEEP

Liz Hurley has reportedly launched legal proceedings against former boyfriend Steve Bing to make him pay for the upbringing of their son.

Sources close to the negotiations say that the 37-year-old actress is hurt by the Californian film producer's lack of interest in little Damian. Bing has never met his eight-month-old baby, despite the fact that Liz has taken him to Los Angeles on several occasions.

The Austin Powers star was also furious over allegations that she got pregnant on purpose in order to get her hands on Bing's vast fortune. The 36-year-old is heir to a £400-million property empire, along with his own £1 million a year earnings. Liz had earlier said that she would bring up Damian on her own without any outside support.

When the row over the baby's paternity first blew up, Bing came to Britain to make sure he was indeed the father. Legal commentators say this may have been a clever move, as it means any proceedings will take place in the UK, not California, where legislation favours the mother.

If Liz had been able to pursue him through the US courts, she could have won up to a third of his earnings and a sizeable chunk of his property.
