BECKS OFF-TARGET IN AUTOBIOGRAPHY

David Beckham is famed for his on-pitch accuracy, but it seems the England skipper was somewhat wide of the mark in his latest effort. Because the 28-year-old has admitted that he got the date of his marriage proposal to Victoria wrong in his new book My Side.

The error is on page 115 of the work, where he tells of how he popped the question at a Cheshire hotel in August 1997. "We had a bedroom overlooking the lake and the fields beyond," writes the footie ace. "It was August, so we had dinner in the room while the sun set. Victoria sat on the bed and I got down on one knee in front of her and asked her to marry me."

It turns out, however, that he actually got down on bended knee some six months earlier. "It seems love-smitten David got his months confused," admitted editor Tom Whiting. "We'll make the correction in our next reprint, which will be shortly."

David's mistake doesn't seem to have harmed sales of the book as it has already topped the bestsellers list and outsold all six Booker Prize finalists.
