Kim Cattrall has returned to her native England to play a very different role to that of the sexually charged PR executive she portrayed in the hit TV series Sex And The City.

The attractive blonde is currently appearing as a Fifties housewife in a production of David Mamet's Cryptogram at the Donmar Warehouse. And while the new part has nothing in common with her previous character, Liverpool-born Kim says fans shouldn't be surprised by her turn in the West End play. "Everyone expects me to be Samantha Jones," she says. "And I'm not - I'm an actress."

Although it delivers a whole new set of challenges, treading the boards also has its own attractions it seems. "I love doing stage," the acress reveals. "Because it's like being in a family. I always feel a bit mournful when it's all over."

After sharing the screen with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis for six years the Vancouver–raised star - who was born in Liverpool and studied theatre at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts - is clearly happy to have returned to her British roots. The trip back home has also given Kim a chance to introduce her beau, Canadian chef Alan Wyse, to the British social scene.

Just last month the couple were spotted at a London Fashion Week bash thrown by fashion maestro Giorgio Armani. Then on Wednesday the pair were mingling another high-profile crowd as Bono and his wife Alison Hewson hosted a charity event for their celebrity pals in aid of African workers.
