As she's equally at home singing in Spanish, Portugese or English it was thoroughly fitting that Nelly Furtado kicked off the American leg of her tour in the multicultural melting pot of Miami. And the Canadian-born chanteuse, whose parents moved to British Columbia from the Azores, certainly seemed to appreciate being in the Florida hot spot.

"Miami is a very alive city," said the 28-year-old singer. "I love the people… the Latin heritage, especially the fact that there are so many second and third generation families."

She's such a fan of the city she chose to record her latest album Loose there, with her two-year-old daughter Nevis in tow. "I had a great schedule," she says. "I'd go to the beach until about 8pm with my daughter, then I'd go to the studio until 4am."

Following her concert on Wednesday evening the singer hosted a party at Miami nightspot Mansion. There, she celebrated the end of the Canadian and European legs of her tour and the beginning of the American stint.

Her last show will take place in Las Vegas on June 23. She then jets off to London to participate in the multi-artiste Concert For Diana on July 1.
