Jack Tweed, the widower of late TV star Jade Goody, has been sentenced to 12 weeks in jail after he was convicted of assaulting a taxi driver.
Speaking on behalf of the 21-year-old, who arriving at the sentencing at Harlow Magistrates court in a smart grey suit and a black trench coat, Jack's lawyer told the court his client has matured since committing the offence last year.
"To say that he is a changed man since May 2008 is perhaps an understatement," she said. "He has endured with dignity and maturity very difficult personal circumstances that have been well documented".
The court also heard written references in support of Jack, who wed mum-of-two Jade in February, from his dad, uncle, and Marie Curie staff who nursed his late wife.
"He appreciates that his past offending behaviour has let people down to a huge extent – people that matter to him. He is extremely regretful," his lawyer added.
