The Caribbean island of Barbados evidently gets Simon Cowell's vote when it comes to a cool place to chill between launching new musical careers. The X Factor judge spent Christmas and New Year there at his £5-million villa, and has now decided to build a second home on the island.

He recently purchased a ten-acre site near the exclusive Sandy Lane golf and spa resort for the new enterprise, which will reportedly include six mirror-lined bedrooms, a helipad and luxurious swimming pool.

"Simon says the project is his pride and joy and that he'll be personally overseeing the whole building process," a source told The Mirror. "No expense will be spared. It will have all the latest gizmos and boy's toys."

The 49-year-old, who invited pal Sinitta and her kids Magdalena and Zac - his godchildren - to join him for a month-long festive break, is to splash out £10-million of his estimated £130-million fortune on the new property.
