Former Conservative politician Edwina has laughed off the reports, however. "I'm deeply flattered about the alleged rivalry between Nancy and me... she's gorgeous," said the 64-year old. "But I am a mother and wife twice, a grandma and great-grandma, I think I should be the one that's envied." Edwina says that like Ann Widdecombe last year, she and dance partner Vincent Simone will be bringing a touch of comedy to the table. "There are some reversals of expectations going on and they will be quite funny," she said. "Since I am heavier than Vincent by a substantial amount, he can't flip me over his head, but I can fling him – although I'm worried about letting go and flinging him into the orchestra!"

Viewers can also expect laughs from Nancy's routines – partner Anton Du Beke has revealed the Italian lawyer doesn't mind sending herself up. "I want to play with the Nancy diva thing," he says. "I might get her strutting out on the dancefloor and then have her wig fall off, or her heel will break. "She’s lovely to spend time with, and I tease her all the time. She doesn't mind a bit. "Both Nancy and Edwina got off to wobbly starts at the weekend. The former politician slipped and ended the cha-cha-cha on her back, while her so called rival got caught up in her feather boa.

But as far as Nancy's concerned, Anton says she won't be phased by any negative criticism from the judges. "I'm sure she'll give as good as she gets, he said.
