Following two months as a single lady since parting ways with the Formula 1 racing driver in June, the X Factor judge said: "I've had a blanket of tissues over me many a night and ordered a random, ginormous pizza for myself.
"In any relationship it's easy to lose yourself and it's important to come back to who you are," she told Glamour Magazine.
"And you can live your life in freedom and happiness when you're happy with who you are."
While she admits to struggling with the break-up, the former Pussycat Doll believes that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
"I definitely have my dark moments but I want to be a light. That's what I strive to be. And really, it's a choice. And sometimes, when you’re sad, you bring the pizza and you make that choice."
And the 35-year-old singer has been firm in her choice. Despite Lewis's public efforts to reach out to her – he dedicated his winning trophy at the Hungarian Grand Prix to Nicole about a month ago – she confirmed that they were "still not together."
"It was very sweet of him," Nicole told The Sun, in reference to a number of Tweets Lewis had posted online, but added "the truth is we are no longer together. It is over."
Nicole is using this time to find herself again and throwing herself into her work. She explained: "It's these times that build a character. I've tried hard to keep it together, for my work."
The pair split just days after the racing driver hinted that he was planning to propose, citing their busy work schedules and the fact that they reside in different countries as causing them to go their separate ways.
