Chris Martin's dad 'proud' of son after Gwyneth Paltrow split, but feels 'sad' for children

Coldplay rocker Chris Martin’s dad is proud of his son for the way he has handled his split from Gwyneth Paltrow, but at the same time feel sorry for their children.

The 72-year-old admitted it is difficult for any youngsters to experience a split between their parents. However he is glad the musician and his actress wife are remaining friends.

"It is sad because there are our two grandchildren. But it is all very amicable between them,” he told the Daily Mirror newspaper about granddaughter Apple and grandson Moses.

The retired accountant said that he doesn’t know anything about rumours of extra-marital affairs or any other possible reason for them breaking up.

After more than 10 years married Chris and Gwyneth decided to call it quits, confessing they had tried for a year to make it work on her GOOP website. Telling the publication he admired their treatment of this sensitive time for them and family, Chris’ father added that their careers and offspring were a wonderful example of how great they were as people.

“It’s all in the statement - the expression that was used - conscious…” he shared, as he tried to remember their description of “unconscious coupling”. Continuing: “I am very proud of what they have achieved in their lives.

”The 70-year-old split from Chris’ mother Alison three years ago after spending 30 years together as man and wife. The 60-year-old is now living in London while Anthony resides in Exeter.

Coldplay’s new album Ghost Stories is out May 19 and Chris will be promoting the LP as well as helping out on America’s The Voice as a mentor to contestants. Gwyneth, 41, is taking a break from acting to spend more time with her children, something planned before she announced her split from her spouse.
