Talking about his sons Zachary and Elijah naturally made Elton John burst with pride during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The Brit, who is married to his partner of 11 years David Furnish, admitted that he can't believe how happy and lucky he is.

"If you'd had said to me ten years ago I'd be sitting on your show married to the man I love and have two beautiful children, I would have said you put acid in my drink," Elton told the chat show host.

Elton John described his sons Elijah and Zachary as "the greatest thing in our lives"

"But life throws you challenges and life throws you curve balls and great curve balls and these two children have come along at a time I never thought I'd have children. They are the greatest thing in our lives," he said. "There are no words to describe how much we love these boys. They're just amazing."

The family have been celebrating; Zachary turned five on Christmas Day and Elijah was three on 11 January. Elton and David took their sons to Disneyland for the first time in December, followed by a ski trip in January.

"It's amazing how young kids love skiing, because they're so close to the ground. It's a bit like Danny DeVito skiing I suppose," he joked. "But they love it."

Elton also explained how he ended up in a wheelchair at Disneyland, but that his injury had a silver lining.

"I sprained my ankle just as were leaving, which was kind of great because no one recognised who I was," he said. "It was the first time Zachary and Elijah had been and they went on a lot of things including the teacups, which I hate. Zachary was just laughing his head off."

The boys are already starting to show an inclination towards music and sing along to their dad's famous tracks including Rocket Man, Don't Go Breaking My Heart and Bennie and the Jets. Elton, however, isn't putting any pressure on his sons.

"I'm not going to push them in any direction whatsoever," said Elton, who is releasing his 33rd album Wonderful Crazy Night next month. "They're just little kids at the moment."

"They're not that keen on what I do," he added. "They're kind of more interested in their Lego which is fine by me."
