Ronnie Wood is about to be outnumbered – the Rolling Stones star has revealed that he and his wife Sally are expecting twin girls. The couple are due to welcome their babies in June, shortly after Ronnie celebrates his 69th birthday, and he confirmed their gender on Twitter this week, while also explaining Sally's absence from the band's current South American tour.

In a series of tweets, Ronnie told his fans: "My wife @sallywood has not been 'sent home' from the @rollingstones tour! 1/3.

"Our twins come first and we decided the Zika virus & excessive flying was too dangerous for them. 2/3.

"Our baby GIRLS are growing beautifully – thank you for the love! 3/3 (my drawing)."

Alongside the messages, he shared a hand-sketched image of Sally, 38, holding their babies in her arms, and a selfie Sally had previously taken showing off her baby bump.

The twins will be the couple's first children together – the musician has four children from his previous marriages: Jesse, 39, with his first wife Krissy, and Leah, 36, Tyrone, 30, and Jamie, 41, with his second wife Jo Wood.

Ronnie and theatre producer Sally announced their baby news in December. "Needless to say, they are thrilled and overjoyed with the wonderful news," their spokesman said. The couple tied the knot in 2012 after six months of dating in a star-studded ceremony held on the eighth-floor penthouse suite of the Dorchester hotel in central London.

Shortly afterwards, Sally shared her hopes of starting a family with Ronnie. "I do think that would be wonderful, but I don't know if it will happen. I hope so," she told the Telegraph. "A baby would be nice. Obviously we've spoken about it quite a lot, and you can ask him and his response would be, 'Well, that would be nice.' He's up for it."
