Royal sources confirmed to HELLO! Online that the visit had been "last-minute" and that no members of the royal family were present during the tour. The visit is believed to have been especially arranged for the Hollywood actress and her 15-year-old son; Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The palace's State Rooms are normally open for visits in the summer, from the end of July to August while the Queen holidays in Balmoral in Scotland.

Angelina, who was recently unveiled as the new face of Guerlain fragrance, last visited Buckingham Palace in October 2014 when she was made an honorary Dame. The Mr. and Mrs. Smith actress received her Damehood from the Queen, in an official ceremony held in the palace's 1844 Room. Angelina looked visibly touched as she bowed in front of the Queen and shook her hand.

On learning of the accolade, Angelina had said: "To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to. Working with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."
