The winner of Strictly Come Dancing 2017, Joe McFadden, has opened up about lifting the glitterball trophy, and admitted that he hadn't expected to win after having a problematic dress rehearsal in the same afternoon. Chatting on Lorraine, he said: "I was completely and utterly flabbergasted! I really, really was. We'd had a not very good dress rehearsal in the afternoon. Katya turned to me and said, 'If we do it like that then there'll be no glitterballs tonight!'"

Speaking about his dance partner, Katya Jones, he gushed: "She was so, so happy and I'm so happy for her. She has literally dragged me through kicking and screaming! Any partner is going to do well with that girl. I'm jealous of all the partners that she's going to have because they're all going to do well because she wouldn't have it any other way." Speaking about his plans now that Strictly is over, the former Holby City actor said: "That would be nice [to do a West End show]. Maybe a bit of telly now I've finished on Holby, it would be nice to just try on some different hats and see if I'm capable of playing any other characters. That was the great thing about doing Strictly, it got me a chance to do something other than playing a surgeon on Holby for a while."

Joe won the contest on Saturday, beating celebrity contestants Debbie McGee, Gemma Atkinson and Alexandra Burke, and admitted to the show hosts, Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, that he didn't expect to win "in a million years". He said: "It feels completely surreal and I'm so in awe of everyone who started all those weeks ago. We've all become such a tight unit and I love them all to bits. Every one of us here are winners because we've gotten here."
