It's been eight years since the ladies of Wisteria Lane first arrived on our screens. And in that time, the cast of hit US TV show Desperate Housewives have forged friendships that will last long after the cameras stop rolling. So it was an emotional week as the leading actresses came together for the very last time to film the show’s final scenes. Eva Longoria – who stars as Gabrielle Solis – tweeted her fans about the tears ang hugs on the set.

She posted photos taken of herself and Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) “holding each other so tight” and one “crying her eyes out” with Marcia Cross (Bree Van de Camp). And in another snap she can be seen wrapping her arms around Ricardo Chavira  who has starred as her spouse Carlos throughout the eight series describing him as “the greatest TV husband anyone could have”. “That’s a wrap!” she later posted. “End of an era #desperatehousewives” Felicity, meanwhile, shared a photograph taken by her husband William H Macy showing her in pyjamas as she prepared to leave for the set. “Off to my last day on @DesperateABC. Hubbie wrote a sign, just like we do with our kids on last days of school,” she wrote.

For Marcia, emotions set in the evening before the final day. “Cannot believe this is the last time I will go to bed and wake up to work on Desperate Housewives…last day tomorrow xo m,” she tweeted.“I think more than anything, it is the moments of kindness during these last eight years that I will cherish the most…“… and that includes all of your heartfelt tweets. And now to sleep. Lights out on DH. Xo xo m”
