Double-O-over for Bond star Colin Salmon as he leaves 'Strictly'

He has charmed silver screen viewers as James Bond's Deputy Chief of Staff, but Colin Salmon didn't do enough to win over the audience as he bid farewell to the glitz and glamour of the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor as he was evicted off the show on Sunday.

Although he faced the bottom two last week, the hunky actor performed his best with partner Kristina, as he took to the floor in suit tails and finery. Dancing to Aretha Franklin's hit Accentuate The Positive, the pair's foxtrot received mixed reports from the judges, but still earned a fairly impressive score of 27.

Speaking about his appearance on the show, charismatic Colin was thankful for the opportunity.

The actor said: "I've got to say without question, this is one of the greatest shows I've ever been involved in. The quality of the competitors this year is seminal. Judges - I respect everything that's been said, what you do is knowledge."

"Anybody who is out there who may have doubts, you have to understand that this is a discipline beyond anything we understand. So I accept with grace this decision."

He added: "I'm going to miss Kristina, she is an amazing dancer, a pre-eminent dancer in her field, she's taught me many, many things. That's going to be the biggest thing."

The pair's other competitors in the dance off, however, came into some real trouble as they opted for to foxtrot to Shirley Bassey's Big Spender. TV presenter Richard Arnold stumbled as he performed the dance in sophisticated pin stripes with partner Erin Boag, resulting in judge Len Goodman to christen him "the plodfather". The star came back with a bang when it counted though, leading him to be voted as the act to stay by three of the judges.

It was Denise Van Outen, however, who stole the show. The star secured her place back at the top of the leaderboard with a Viennese waltz to Etta James' At Last, which was described as "elegant and romantic" by the judges. The star was awarded 35 points for the performance, which also ranked as the top performance of the night.

As well as an array of dance moves, The Wanted and classical music star Andrea Bocelli were added to the night's entertainment.

Max George and his bandmates performed new single I Found You on the show, which was a far cry from their more subdued performance of Lightning on last year's series. Surrounded by female backing dancers and vibrant disco-esque lighting, the heart throbs danced away in homage to the show.

Andrea Bocelli opted for a more stripped back performance of Nessun Dorma as he took the stage. The Italian operatic star released his latest album of covers in September.
