Pippa Middleton follows in Kate's charitable footsteps as she opens the Red Cross' Christmas designer sale

Pippa Middleton stepped out in London on Thursday night to help a good cause. Kate's sister opened a charity Christmas designer sale at a Red Cross Shop.  Wearing her favourite pillar box red Kate Spade swing coat, which she has worn on other occasions, Pippa looked as stylish as ever. The 29-year-old teamed the wool coat with thick black tights, heels in the same hue and a lick of light red lipstick as she opened the sale by cutting the ribbon at the second-hand clothing store.

Pippa, who is a supporter of charitable causes, had been invited to open the specialist designer and vintage sale at Chelsea's British Red Cross shop, which keeps aside the best donated fashion items for the special Christmas sale.

Customers will be able to buy pieces from brands such as Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Marc Jacobs and Dior at very reduced prices, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Shop volunteer Norma Buhler said: "It was such a pleasure to meet Pippa. She was so sweet, it is so amazing of here to come and do this for the Red Cross – she said she often walks past and looks in and she wanted to do something for us. "Later on in the evening, Pippa changed into a navy blue ensemble to attend The Quintessentially Foundation's Fayre charity concert. The pretty brunette was joined by other stars to attend the concert which played host to Dickensian theme with VIP performances from some of the UK's finest talents.James Morrison sang John Lennon's Merry Christmas War Is Over, and the crowd was treated to performances by soul singer Laura Myula, The London Contemporary Orchestra and London Community Gospel Choir. All the proceedings raised from the evening, a total of £130,000, will be donated to War Child, the international charity dedicated to protecting children affected by war.After the sing-song, guests went to Fortnum & Mason for a late-night shopping experience.

Her round of charitable activities comes after she attended a bash thrown for W&W Jewellery on Monday night. Clad in an autumnal, metallic-effect outfit, the brunette was the centre of attention as she partied away with close friend Kate Redman.This particular soiree was a welcome break for Pippa, who is relaxing after the pressures of launching her first book, Celebrate: A year of festivities for Families and Friends. In the tome, Pippa details recipes, tips and advice for parties and family gatherings such as Halloween and Bonfire Night. She delves into her family past to divulge traditions like how to make lollipop-studded pumpkins and floating garden ghosts.
