Newly-single Taylor Swift's daring night out at the People's Choice Awards

Taylor Swift was in high spirits at the People's Choice Awards on Wednesday night following her split from One Direction star Harry Styles.Showing Harry what he is missing out on, the 22-year-old country singer stunned in her first public appearance since the breakup in a very daring white Ralph Lauren gown. Taylor completed her look with a pair of turquoise earrings and an elegant up'do.

The star didn't go home empty handed - at the awards she took the gong for Best Country Artist which was presented to her by actress Olivia Munn.After the awards and once at home, Taylor thanked everyone for the "beautiful night": "Sitting here with my new People's Choice award and Chinese food take out, watching Law and Order. Thank you for a beautiful night:)," she tweeted.Taylor and Harry, who had been dating since November, were said to have encountered problems during their New Year break to the British Virgin Islands, where they were said to have had a row, according to the Daily Mail."Yes I can confirm they have split up," a source told the publication. "They were on holiday and had an almighty row. They are two young stars at the top of their game so who knows what will happen in the future."

The big winner at Wednesday's event was the Hunger Games saga, which devoured the competition at the People's Choice Awards, emerging the top victor with five trophies. The film was named favourite movie, action movie and movie franchise, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth had fans' favourite on-screen chemistry.Jennifer, looking glamorous in a Valentino black sequinned dress,  also won favourite movie actress and "face of heroism".Katy Perry made a comeback this year after missing out on last year's award due to her separation from former husband Russell Brand. The singer, who last year was honoured in five categories, won three awards at the ceremony in Los Angeles.Dressed in a flower-print Valentino dress, the star made a solo appearance at the awards, leaving new boyfriend John Mayer at home.

Other winners included actress Sandra Bullock who picked up the show's first favourite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans. "I'm not at all being modest when I say I'm not doing anything compared to what they do on a daily basis," the actress, 48, told the crowd gathered at Los Angeles's Nokia Theatre. Just six months after Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, Sandra showed her support by adopting the Warren Easton Charter High School and donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to renovate it, which sustained $4 million in damages during the storm. Actress Kaley Cuoco hosted the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre, where performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.
