At around 4pm, you have a choice - do you pour a cup of tea to enjoy with a scone? Or do you throw caution to the wind, crack open the gin, and pour over tonic and lemon? If this is your weekly Saturday afternoon conundrum, then you may be pleased to hear that you now no longer have to choose... because alcoholic tea has arrived, and it kind of gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘tea party’. Noveltea is about to arrive in your spirit cupboard, and it definitely has us wanting a cuppa (or three).

Cup of tea, or something stronger?

One of the founders, Luka Passia was inspired to make alcoholic tea when he was sent some Christmas tea from his parents in Germany when studying abroad. In true student style, he decided to make it alcoholic, and mixed it with Cognac Brandy - as you do. He called the mixture an “enchanting tasting experience”, and met his co-founder, Vincent Efferoth while studying in the UK, where they decided to launch the product. They took the British tea tradition and our love of a tipple or two and combined them to great the “world’s first cold brewed tea with spirit”. And we’re a little annoyed that we didn’t think it of it first…

Currently, they have an Earl Grey gin and a Green Mint Tea rum, but are working on other flavours. The drinks can be enjoyed over ice, or even served hot, like a true cup of tea (and perhaps people wouldn’t notice that you’re secretly slurping on rum if you used a mug - just a thought). Seeing as tea is the world’s second most widely consumed drink after water, we can imagine that they’ll definitely be a hit for summer party season. You can buy find them Fenwick, John Lewis, and on their website. Chin chin!
