Harvey Keitel, the character actor known for his intense performances, married Israeli-born actress Daphna Kastner in Jerusalem on Sunday night. The couple chose the rooftop of the Beit Shmuel hall, with its breathtaking views of the walled Old City, for the simple ceremony.
Wearing black to match his bride’s outfit, Harvey escorted his bride-to-be along cobblestones to the venue, while a phalanx of security guards kept the press from getting too intimate with the couple. “Very efficient guys here,” joked the star of The Piano, as he was ushered inside.
The actor is currently in Israel to promote his new movie, The Grey Zone, at the Haifa Film Festival. It tells the story of the Sonderkomandos, inmates of World War II Nazi death camps, who were forced to load the ovens with corpses of their friends and family. Harvey, 62, plays a Nazi officer in the movie, which co-stars David Arquette, Steve Buscemi and Mira Sorvino.
This is not Harvey’s first wedding: in 1982, he married Lorraine Bracco, who plays psychologist Dr Melfi in the hit TV show The Sopranos. They divorced 11 years later and have a daughter.
