'Dumpy' Renee Zellweger is Hasty Pudding award winner

Her comic turns in films like Bridget Jones's Diary have shown Renee Zellweger doesn’t take herself too seriously. This week her good humour was back on display as she accepted the Hasty Pudding woman of the year trophy.

The awards, presented by Harvard University's student theatrical society - the US' oldest - are taken very seriously by the honorees who are treated to a celebratory 'roast' and a parade through Harvard Square.

Renee, who'd slipped into a fat suit and danced in tribute to her roles in Bridget Jones and Chicago, seized the opportunity to turn the tables on her hosts, thanking the drama troupe for her trophy saying it was "the nicest doorstop I've ever seen".

She's the latest actress to receive the gong, the past winners of which include Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Halle Berry.

Spider-Man star James Franco will be honoured as the Hasty Pudding man of the year next week.
