Family keep vigil as injured Natasha Richardson is flown to New York

Loved ones of Natasha Richardson - including her actress mother Vanessa Redgrave and sister Joely Richardson - have rushed to the actress' bedside in New York after she was seriously hurt in a skiing accident in Canada.

While there's been no confirmation on the exact nature of her condition, reports say she may have suffered a blood clot on the brain and has been left fighting for her life after what initially appeared to be an apparently minor tumble.

The 45-year-old was flown by private jet from intensive care in Montreal to a hospital in New York after suffering a head injury during a ski lesson on the nursery slopes at the upmarket Mount Tremblant resort on Monday. Natasha - who wasn't wearing a helmet - initially laughed off the accident and declined to see a doctor, even signing a form to refuse medical treatment.

"She was laughing and joking and she walked to her room on her own," said the resort's spokesperson. "She wasn't confused. She knew where she was, and was in full control. There was no visible injury, no sign of impact."

An hour after returning to her hotel room, the British actress began to experience a severe headache and was taken to hospital, where doctors gave her a CT scan and discovered the full extent of her head injuries. She was then taken to a bigger hospital in Montreal as her husband, Liam Neeson, rushed from the Toronto set of his latest film to be at her side.
