The birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal baby boy will be honoured in a special episode of EastEnders. The scene, which was quickly filmed after the news that Kate had given birth to a son, will feature in Tuesday's episode of the show, which is broadcast at 19:30.
The scene shows the show's characters Dot Cotton and Abi Branning, respectively played by June Brown and Lorna Fitzgerald, excitedly disussing the news that the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a little boy. "This is such a momentous occasion for the Royal family, the country and of course the residents of Walford," said an EastEnders spokesperson. "We felt it should be marked in EastEnders history."
June Brown, who plays Dot Cotton, will talk about the royal baby in Tuesday's episode. During its 28 year history, EastEnders has covered many topical and historial event.
Prince William's marriage to Kate Middleton was covered in April 2011 and was Barack Obama's election and Michael Jackson's death in 2009.
Sporting achievements, including World Cup mathes and most recently Andy Murray's triumph at Wimbledon, have also been inserted into the soap.
In July 2012, before the Olympic games gripped the nation, the Olympic torch made an early appearance in E20, which is both the fictional postcode of the
EastEnders' setting and the real postcode of the Olympic village in Stratford. Perry Fenwick, who has played Billy Mitchell for nearly 14 years, carried the torch through the streets of Walford during an eight-minute live section of the popular soap.
