Michelle Keegan looks unrecognisable as Mary Queen of Scots

Michelle Keegan has tried her hand at playing one of history's most famous figures – Mary, Queen of Scots! The former Coronation Street star appear as the royal in the upcoming series of Drunk History, a comedy historical show. Narrated by Jimmy Carr, the show features inebriated comedians telling notable stories from history, with actors playing out their tipsy ramblings. Michelle's story centres around Mary, Queen of Scots', and her plan to overthrow her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I, from the English throne. The story was retold by Drifters comedians Lydia Rose Bewley and Jess Knappett.

Other stars who will appear in the third series of the Comedy Central show include Chris O'Dowd, Matthew Lewis, Emma Bunton and Jamie Laing, while comedians including Joel Dommett, Joe Lycett and Kerry Howard will be retelling stories including The Great Train Robbery and the life of William Wallace. This isn't the first time Michelle has appeared in the show, as she has previously played Queen Elizabeth I in the second series of the popular programme.

Michelle plays Mary in the show

The star has previously opened up about how much she would like to do a period drama in the future, telling FHM that she had been working on her dialect. "I'm working on [the accent] at the moment actually!" she said. "I really want to do a period drama one day, I'd love that. Something like The Tudors or Downton Abbey." The Our Girl actress has also revealed that she will portray Princess Leia in Keith Lemon and Paddy McGuinness' new comedy sketch, The Keith and Paddy Picture Show. Speaking about the role, she said: "I'm excited to be part of this new show with Keith and Paddy and thrilled to be taking on the iconic role of Princess Leia, a strong, female heroine and all round Star Wars legend. I had so much fun and we had such a laugh filming that I can't wait for everyone to see the final result."
