Aidan Turner has opened up about the one Poldark co-star he just can't get one with – Garrick the dog! In the show, Poldark's wife Demelza is friends with the canine, but in reality Aidan revealed that he's "just [doesn't] like that dog". Chatting to Heat magazine about getting along with the four-legged friend, whose real name is Barley, he said: "I hate that dog. I've never disliked an animal in my life, but I just don't like that dog. You can't pet him - he just bites you. He's looking for a treat the whole time. Zero love from me. He's just a working dog, you know, so you don't get affection. He just works more than me so I'm probably jealous."

Barley's trainer, Gill Raddings, has a very different opinion, saying: "Barley has never put a foot wrong. We do enjoy working on Poldark very much. He's very intelligent, picks up tricks really easily. I knew I'd gotten a really special dog." Barley has also appeared in Fantastic Beasts and Wear to Find Them and 2017's National Television Awards.

Fans were delighted when Poldark returned to their screens on Sunday night, and many took to Twitter to discuss Aidan's shirtless scene. One viewer cheekily tweeted: "Very strong start to this series of #Poldark. License fee money well spent IMHO," while another added: "Is this #Poldark or #LoveIsland or the ultimate crossover?" The Hobbit actor has previously opened up about filming his topless moments on the show, telling the Mirror: "It was pretty cold. It was September and it wasn't pleasant… I have to keep relatively fit just to fit into the costumes." He added that he doesn't mind getting attention for the scenes, joking: "I don't [mind] at all. Go for it."
