Stepping out of the salon with a fresh new hair colour is a great feeling. While celebrities switch-up their hues all the time, with stars such as Katy Perry going from brunette to blonde at the drop of a hat, most of us can only hit the dye bottle every so often. So what should you do to keep your strands glossy for longer? The experts at hair salon Taylor Taylor in London have shared their top tips with HELLO!.

Invest in quality products

Keep your colour looking vibrant for longer by using a professional shampoo or conditioner. "High street brands may be cheaper but they are often not powerful enough to maintain colour to a noticeable standard," they shared. Specifically, beware of cheaper haircare brands, especially when it comes to conditioners. These products are often filled with silicone to make the hair seem shiner and healthier, when in reality this ingredient may strip the colour in the long run.

Use toners

Hair toners aren't just for use at the salon. Ask your hair colourist for advice on shampoos, conditioners and masks that have toner incorporated within the formula. Toners will refresh your hair each time you wash it and help prolong the colour. "And contrary to popular belief, toners and masks are not just for blonde and grey shades, but also a must for redheads and brunettes," the hair experts explained. "Pigmented masks ensure the hair stays glossy and healthy in between appointments."

Avoid overwashing hair

To keep your dyed locks looking their best, try not to shampoo too often. This will help protect the colour as well as the natural oils within the strands. For best results, try to wash no more than twice a week.
