Anyone who regularly suffers with broken sleep due to a loved one's snoring will no doubt have tried countless methods and remedies to get a good night's sleep. But aside from nasal strips or mouth guards there may be another unexpected remedy for snorers - a pineapple plant.

New research from NASA suggests that sleeping with a pineapple plant in your bedroom can stop you from snoring, helping you all to get a decent night's sleep. This is because pineapple plants produce large amounts of oxygen, and therefore improve air quality throughout the night.

Better still, it's not difficult or expensive to try at home; Asda is currently selling pineapple plants for £12 at stores across the UK until January. Phil Smith, Asda's plant buyer, says: "Snorts, snuffles and splutters affect a quarter of Brits, so for those 16 million snorers, Asda's pineapple Plant could be a dream come true – even more-so for sleep-deprived partners. For those lucky enough to sleep through the night without the disturbance of snoring, the plant is a chic addition to the home which is easy to care for and adds a little touch of the tropics to any room."

Regardless of whether you or your partner snores, the pineapple plant will be an eye-catching addition to any room, with long dark green leaves and a miniature inedible pineapple sitting on top, however you'll have to be patient, as the pineapple takes from 21 to 24 months to grow. Other plants NASA recommends putting in your bedroom for air purification include aloe vera, Spider plant, English Ivy or Boston fern. The Areca palm, Chinese evergreen or Peace lily may also help to improve air quality in your home.
