Natalia Vodianova has invested in a health app designed for women. The Russian model kicked off her career at the age of 15 and was quickly snapped up gigs for the likes of Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Calvin Klein.

Now a mother of five, Vodianova has sidelined fashion for philanthropic activities in recent years, and announced on Friday that she's taking a stake in the Flo Period Tracker app. "The period tracker is the tip of the iceberg," she said, according to WWD. "You discover all this amazing, very curated to your personal needs, content, which is delivered in a very nice way - very easy to digest in short messages."

Vodianova was introduced to the app by founder and entrepreneur Yuri Gurski, and was impressed by how it makes accurate and reliable predictions of menstruation and ovulation using machine learning. In addition to period tracking, the technology allows for notifications of ovulation, contraceptives and other medication, and can also track sleep duration and physical activity.

And the 35-year-old explains that part of the appeal of the app is that it offers health information and tips as well as anonymous discussion forums. "This is a very safe place for women to deal with a lot of anxiety, a lot of self-esteem problems and I think especially for those 11- or 12-year-old girls all over the world, (there's) still a stigma and shame about being a woman, and our bodies and vaginas and periods," she shared.

In addition to investing in Flo, Vodianova will act as a board member. She is also the founder of the Naked Heart Foundation, and in 2015 launched the Elbi app, which allows people to donate money with a "Love Button," create content, send messages, and vote for charitable purposes.
