Get the look: Lucy Liu’s just peachy with a natural approach to make-up

At the opening of a design exhibition in New York, Lucy Liu certainly took an almost architectural approach to her own make-up, using just one peachy shade to contour her face so her bone structure is highlighted with perfect symmetry against a flawless complexion.

Start with a fairly thick foundation to cover imperfections and ensure skin looks seamless, but mix with just a tiny amount of moisturiser to give it a little dewiness then apply with a foundation brush to ensure a more even coverage than is achieved with fingertips.

Suck in the cheeks and using a small blusher brush, apply bronzer on the underside of cheekbones to create a sculpted look, moving almost diagonally down from the widest part of the face to the apples of the cheeks. Then, using a medium-sized blusher brush, apply an apricot shade of powder blusher above that line, along the cheekbones themselves.

Finish with a swathe of highlighter over the centre of the apples of the cheeks, rather than the top, which makes the face appear longer and creates more space between eyes and cheeks so eyes look bigger, too.

Apply a thin line of liquid black liner along the upper lashes of each eye, winging it out slightly at the outer edges. Use the blusher as an eyeshadow, applying all over the upper lids and above the crease with a small blusher brush. Then dip an eyeshadow brush in water or toner before coating with the blusher powder and adding more intensity of colour at the outer corners of the eyes.

Use the small blusher brush to blend the two layers and add another layer of highlighter above the shadow, under the brows. Apply lots of mascara on the upper lashes only, especially on the outer third of the lashes to continue the ‘winged out’ effect that will make eyes appear wider. Fill in perfectly plucked brows with a brown pencil.

Finish by dipping a lip brush in clear gloss and then into the blusher powder before applying to the lips for a beautifully balanced, naturally glowing result.
