"My second and most special tattoo, the initials of five of the most important beings in my life: my nieces and nephew," she wrote in a heartfelt post shared with her 1.7 million Instagram followers, alongside a black-and-white snap of the tattoo.

Ariel also revealed that she chose to have the artwork on her side for a touching reason. "Their initials are on my ribcage, on the side where my heart is," she explained.

The doting aunt added: "They are my inspiration, and my reason for living. Love these babies more than anything and proud to have their initials forever on my body."

It's not the first time that the actress has opened up about her family. Speaking during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ariel spoke candidly about how her older sister Shanelle helped her through a lengthy legal battle which resulted in her emancipation from mother Chrystal Workman in May.

"She's been the best part of my life," she told Ellen. "She really is my best friend. She's the most important thing to me. She's been there for me through absolutely everything. And I just love her so much. I count on her more than anything."

Talking about her emancipation, Ariel explained that the legal process first started when she initially began living with her sister in 2012.

"Well actually from 14-17 it was a legal custody battle," she said. "My sister was granted temporary custody first and then when I was 17 in the beginning of the year she was granted permanent custody. And then to kind of just move forward with the process and end it all together we got me emancipated and I could just handle my own affairs."
