Sophie Wessex returns to public life

Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has made a quiet return to the public eye with her first day of official engagements since the birth of her daughter, Lady Louise, in November.

Thirty-nine-year-old Sophie seemed relaxed and cheerful as she opened the new Emergency Department of the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dressed in a white coat dress, the royal shared a joke with local schoolchildren who were at the medical centre to learn first aid.

And as she wrapped up her tour, the new mum didn't leave empty-handed. Well wishers at the hospital presented her with flowers as well as a pink teddy bear for her daughter.

While the visit was Sophie's first public engagement, she has been spotted out and about at family affairs in recent months. She attended a recent all-female lunch hosted by the Queen, and joined the Royal Family in April for an Easter Sunday service at Windsor.
