Lazy days of summer fun for Denmark's young royals

Perched between his father Frederik's knees, with his mum lavishing attention on him, little Prince Christian of Denmark looked tickled pink as he participated in a sun-splashed photo shoot. Usually both Frederik and his wife Mary have a packed programme of engagements, but with the advent of the vacations the family has been spending quality time at Grasten Palace, a favourite summer residence for the Danish royals.

During the photocall with their extended clan, 34-year-old Mary was all motherly concern, straightening the cotton hat shielding her son from the heat. And Denmark's future king was revelling in the undivided attention of all the adults on the break with Queen Margarethe showering her grandson with affection.

Christian's cousins, seven-year-old Nikolai and Felix, four, were also on the holiday. Being a little bit older than the second-in-line to the throne, the boys got a special treat when their father Joachim took them to nearby kiddies amusement park Legoland. At the attraction the excited youngsters got to try out all manner of rides supervised by their indulgent dad. From the big red toy plane to a multi-coloured train, Nikolai and his brother had a go on everything on offer during their fun-packed day out.
