Zara Phillips' rugby star boyfriend Mike Tindall has been banned for driving for three years after being found guilty of drink driving.

The 30-year-old England player was stopped by officers in Berkshire the morning after a day of drinking at the races with his royal girlfriend. He was found to be over the limit.

Magistrates in Reading were told on Thursday he had spent the afternoon before last March's incident at the Cheltenham Festival with the Queen's granddaughter. They had they gone on to a restaurant.

Gloucestershire-born Mike had the same penalty imposed for 16 months in 2000 following a similar offence.
