Gucci girl Charlotte shines amid the stars on the Croisette

Onlookers could be forgiven for imagining that the dazzling brunette sashaying along before a phalanx of photographers was a supermodel or movie actress, such was her air of confidence. In fact the camera-ready visitor to Cannes was none other than Charlotte Casiraghi, the daughter of Monaco's Princess Caroline and the granddaughter of Grace Kelly.

The Monegasque royal's looks, vitality and pedigree have, actually, landed her a new role as the face of Gucci's 'Forever Now' campaign – her first big modelling assignment.She'd been keeping a low profile since her relationship with Alex Dellal ended last January. But on Friday the 25-year-old made a comeback at the famous film festival to attend the a showing of iconic movie Once Upon A Time In America – sponsored by the Gucci Film Foundation. Charlotte had opted for a forest green dress by the Italian fashion label, featuring ruffles cascading down the skirt and around the neckline.A black and gold clutch and gold peep-toes provided the finishing touches to her chic look.

Her current love interest is French actor Gad Elmaleh, 41, but they have yet to make a public appearance together.Instead her escort for the evening was another Gallic charmer Charles Berlin, who gripped her arm protectively as he led her down the red carpet. Also at the screening were Naomi Watts, evergreen beauty Jane Fonda, and the star of the gangster flick Robert De Niro, who was accompanied by his striking wife Grace Hightower.The Hollywood luminaries were joined by Salma Hayek with her husband François-Henri Pinault, the billionaire fashion mogul behind Gucci.The 45-year-old Mexican actress looked stunning in a Gucci show-stopper with a fully-beaded bodice and ombre chiffon skirt.

Having just put a difficult time behind them, Salma and François were on good form. The French tycoon recently ended a child support case with model Linda Evangelista.Linda, 46, had apparently been seeking a monthly sum of $46,000 to cover live-in nannies and security guards for five-year-old Augustin, her son with the luxury goods tycoon.The terms of the agreement are not known, but his lawyer, David Aronson told reporters: "Everybody's glad for the sake and the benefit of the child that it's done."
