Out of respect for the ancient, religious structure, located in the city of Yogyakarta, the couple were given traditional black and white sarongs to wear around their waists. Mother-of-three Mette-Marit wore a pretty white wrap dress, complete with gold ballet-style pumps, whilst her husband chose a bright blue shirt and grey trousers.
Earlier in the day the 39-year-old pair had met with Yogyakarta's Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and his wife Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas at their palace before paying a visit to Gadjah Mada University, one of the country's prestigious higher education institutions.
Norway's future monarchs were in the pacific region for a three-day visit to strengthen and develop the existing relationship between the two countries especially in relation to the energy, maritime, trade and investment sectors. Upon their arrival, the couple were met by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the country's First Lady before heading an official dinner at the Shangri La hotel.
It was down to business on the second day, with the blonde Princess speaking personally during a business plenary session held at the Indonesia-Norway Strategic Partnership Conference before attending the official opening of an Innovation Norway office in the country's capital, Jakarta. Innovation Norway is state-owned company that promotes industrial development and its Indonesian office is now one of 30 worldwide divisions.
After their more serious duties were over the couple were given the chance for a more cultural experience looking at local cloth at an eco marketplace exhibition before enjoying some local delicacies at a seafood buffet.
