Prince William, Duchess Kate and five-month-old Prince George will be spending New Year's Eve at the Middleton's family home in Berkshire, according to the Sunday Express

The newspaper reports that the trio will leave Sandringham, where they spent Christmas with the rest of the royal family, on either Sunday or Monday and head to Bucklebury to see Kate's family. "William and Kate are just like any normal couple and want to spend time with both families," a friend told the Express

"This year they are seeing in 2014 with Catherine's family. "William likes being at Sandringham," the friend added. "But he also loves the informality of staying with Kate's parents and just chilling out in a normal family environment."

Prince George spent some of the first days of his life at the Middleton's home after his parents swapped Kensington Palace for the security of being around Kate's family in the days after she gave birth, and it is where Michael Middelton captured the first official picture of the trio.

Kate also revealed during her surprise visit at Anglesey Ultra Marathon that her son was being looked after by his grandmother, Carole Middleton, while the couple were away from home.

Last Christmas, which took place soon after news broke that the Duchess was pregnant, the couple spent the festive season with the Middletons instead of the royal family, but made a highly anticipated appearance at Sandringham this year.

During a rare public display of affection, William and Kate walked hand-in-hand after the Christmas Day church service which is traditionally attended by the Queen and other senior royals.

The pair looked happier than ever on the outing at St Mary Magdalene Church on the Queen's Norfolk estate, and it wasn't hard to guess why given that it was the couple's first Christmas as parents.

Although they left the little Prince at home, he was the main topic of conversation when the couple spoke to well-wishers at the church.

William told crowd: "We've had a good morning with George and I can't wait until next year when he's bigger."
