Kate to give birth to royal baby on reported due date, say bookies

The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has previously revealed that she is due to give birth in mid-to-late April, but other sources have been more exact, stating that she and Prince William will welcome their little bundle of joy on Saturday 25 April.

Bookies have received a flurry of bets from gamblers believing that the royal will in fact give birth on this reported date.

When she had Prince George in 2013, the Duchess was a couple of weeks late with her first-born, but this time round members of the public have more faith.

Punters are betting that Kate will give birth on Saturday 25 April

Over 80 per cent of punters at Coral have put money on the little Prince of Princess being born on the 25th, leaving the odds at 14/1.

The bookmaker is going 15/1 that the royal baby arrives a day early and 16/1 that it's a day late, but there's also been a flurry of bets on Kate giving birth on the same day as the general election on Thursday 7 May, with odds at 26/1.

Prince William and Kate, pictured with Prince George, do not know the gender of their second baby

Despite William and Kate, let alone the public, not knowing what the gender of the baby is, punters are also placing bets on the unborn child's name. According to Coral, it's 8/11 that the second tot is a girl, while a boy stands at 6/5.

Alice and Elizabeth remain the clear favourites for names, at 5/2 and 5/1 respectively. However bookies have also received a fresh wave of bets going on Victoria at 12-1. Charlotte is currently the third most popular name for a little Princess at 6/1, followed by Alexandra at 12/1.

Pregnant Kate was overheard saying "not long to go now" at an engagement in mid-March

Kate was carrying out one of her last engagements before she went off on maternity leave in mid-March, when she revealed her rough due date. The pretty Duchess was visiting a children's centre in Woolwich, London, run by charity Home-Start, when she was asked the all-important question.

"I told her she is beautiful and that she's got a tiny little bump," said volunteer Christie Osborne, 49. "I asked when her baby is due and she said mid-to-end of April."

Kate was also overheard saying, "Not long to go now."
