Queen Máxima dazzles during first official visit to Canada

Queen Máxima began her tour of Canada in style on Wednesday. The Dutch royal touched down in Ottawa with her husband King Willem-Alexander, showing off a stylish white, navy and magenta number, which she wore under a lace dress that matched her glamorous oversized hat.It was straight to work for the couple, who greeted well-wishers gathered to welcome them, before laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier and planting a tree together in grounds of Rideau Hall.

Máxima arrived in Ottawa in style on Wednesday

Also on the agenda for the first day of their three-day visit was a trip to Parliament Hill and the National War Museum – where Máxima met 92-year-old Elsa Lessard, a veteran who worked decoding messages during World War II."When I met her, she got my hand and she didn't let go," Elsa told the Ottawa Citizen. "She was just down to earth."

The evening saw Máxima change into a fringed fuchsia dress for a state banquet with Governor General David Johnston and his wife Sharon. The Argentina-born Queen, who recently celebrated her 44th birthday, turned heads in a dazzling tiara featuring jewels that matched her vibrant gown, as well as a pair of glittering earrings and a matching brooch.Mum-of-three Máxima wore her blonde locks swirled into a chic low bun.

Queen Máxima wowed in a vibrant pink gown

King Willem-Alexander, who had earlier echoed his wife's outfit in a navy suit, stepped out in a smart black tuxedo.

The visit is Máxima and Williem-Alexander's first official tour of Canada. After leaving Ottawa, the couple will head to Toronto and then on to the United States.
