Prince George made his second ever Trooping the Colour balcony appearance yesterday, and according to his mum, the Duchess of Cambridge, the third-in-line to the throne was "so excited."

Speaking to a well-wisher as she greeted the crowds on The Mall at the Patron's Lunch on Sunday, Kate revealed that Prince George had greatly enjoyed the big event the day before. According to the royal fan, Kate said: "I've honestly never seen him so excited. His face lit up."

Kate told the crowds how excited Prince George was at Trooping the Colour

The toddler, who will turn three in July, joined his parents and sister Charlotte on the balcony, and waved to the crowds as he walked out by himself, albeit causing a slight alarm to his parents and great-grandmother, the Queen, when he leant over the balcony to look at the crowds. The little prince looked simply adorable in a pair of blue shorts and a white shirt with blue lining, which was first worn by his father Prince William at Prince Harry's Christening in 1984.

The mother-of-two also revealed to another well-wisher, Surrey-based Ella Hunter-Gibbs, that George had talked to her about the wet weather earlier in the day. Ella told HELLO!: "I'm so excited right now, we were talking about how it has finally stopped raining.

"She was saying that George opened the door today and said, 'it's not very nice out today mummy, is it?' She said 'No, it isn't George.'"

Kate also revealed how she spent her spare time with the children, telling a neighbour from Norfolk how she loves to take them both to the beach. "Kate was saying she enjoyed taking the children to the beach," Charles Farrow said. "The beaches near us are perfect if you want to be quite quiet."

Prince William also chatted to the crowds about the wet weather, joking with a woman who apologised for looking bedraggled with wet hair, to which he replied: "It still looks lovely. You've got more hair than I have."

He told another group: "It wouldn't be a proper street party without a bit of rain. I'm glad you've got a bit of alcohol and some chocolate."
