Princess Charlene of Monaco was the belle of the ball at the Red Cross Gala on Saturday night. All eyes were on the mum-of-two, who wore a show-stopping lilac gown that featured a glamorous V-neckline.

She completed her regal look with a pair of diamond drop earrings, a classic pendant necklace and a beaded clutch.

Charlene, 38, was accompanying her husband Prince Albert to the 68th annual charity gala. The pair were enjoying a night off from parenting duty and left their twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella at home.

Members of the Monaco royal family regularly step out to show their support for the charity do, which was first attended by Prince Rainier III in 1948. The gala has been held at the Salle des Etoiles at the Sporting Monte-Carlo every year since.

Charlene and Albert arrived arm-in-arm, posing for photographs before making their entrance.

There was a brief moment of solemnity when the couple and their fellow guests observed a minute's silence, bowing their heads to pay their respects to the victims of the Munich shooting that happened the day before.

Albert, 58, also released a statement to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, via the palace's Facebook page, offering Monaco's support to the people of Germany.

The couple's outing comes a few days after Albert opened up about his and Charlene's 19-month-old twins.

"They're doing great!" he told People. "They're roaming around, starting to repeat words. They almost know their ABCs and numbers. Gabriella is good with her numbers.

"They're doing them in French and English. We're speaking mostly English. Gabriella's really very good with her numbers. Jacques is a little bit lazier but he catches up fast and will pass her."

The twins are also taking after their mum Charlene, a retired Olympic swimmer. "They're in the [the pool] twice a day," said Albert. "I try to make the late afternoon swim with them. [Gabriella] likes putting her head underwater more than Jacques does."
