The Duchess of Cambridge has held a special reception for runners who will take part in the London Marathon this weekend. Kate, who will be cheering on participants from the sidelines on the day, welcomed the group to Kensington Palace and spoke to them about the different reasons they are competing in the 26-mile race. She wished them luck with their final preparations before the team took part in a training session with coach Nick Anderson.

During the engagement, Kate also wrapped a Heads Together banner around the Kensington Palace postbox. She met with representatives from Royal Mail to hear more about how they will be supporting the 'mental health marathon'. Royal Mail will be wrapping 70 postboxes that line the marathon route with special edition Heads Together Royal Mail headbands.

The runners Kate met on Thursday form part of the Heads Together team. Heads Together is the mental health campaign spearheaded by Kate, her husband Prince William and Prince Harry. Its aim is to tackle stigma, raise awareness and provide vital help for people with mental health problems.

They are highlighting the power of conversations and how being able to talk openly about mental health challenges can be life-changing. Heads Together is the marathon's charity of the year and William, Kate and Harry are hoping that 2017's event will be recognised as 'the mental health marathon' that gets the country talking about the issue.
