Earl and Countess of Wessex toast athletes' success at Paralympic Ball

With sports fever continuing to grip the nation, The Earl and Countess of Wessex joined some of Paralympics GB's sporting heroes for a celebration of the Games. Prince Edward, who is the patron of the British Paralympic Association, was accompanied by his wife Sophie who looked stunning in a coral pink, off the shoulder floor length gown and elegant drop-pearl earrings.

The couple, due to embark on a Diamond Jubilee tour of Canada on September 11, have been spotted enjoying several Paralympic events, including cycling at the velodrome.

Lord Coe and Sir Philip Craven, president of the International Paralympic Committee, were among the guests honouring a host of medal-winning athletes, including the equestrian team and mixed rowing four.

Discus champion Aled Davies attended the ball adorned with his two London 2012 medals, one of which hd been presented to him by the Duchess of Cambridge.Aled said that his experience has been "a rollercoaster ride and a lot of hard work and sacrifice in my social life, just for these around my neck. But it's been totally worth it. It's nice to let my hair down now and relax and enjoy being champion."

The event, held at Grosvenor House Hotel, was to raise funds for the British Paralympic Association and the IPC's Agitos Foundation, which aims to increase the number of sporting activities for people with disabilities.Held in conjunction with media partner HELLO!, the ball featured an auction for a year subscription to the magazine whilst free copies and goody bags were given to the 550 guests.For full, behind-the-scenes coverage of the event - plus an exclusive chat with the Countess of Wessex - pick up your copy of HELLO! on September 10.
