Alton Towers gear up for 'biggest, fastest' rollercoaster yet

Share this:

Its codename is Secret Weapon Seven, and it is set to be the ‘biggest, fastest’ rollercoaster ever at popular theme park Alton Towers. Reaching speeds of up to 85 mph, lasting 165 seconds and with a staggering drop of 35 metres, the groundbreaking ride, which opens in March next year, will raise the bar for thrill-seekers. The megaride will, no doubt, temporarily put the park’s other rides, such as Oblivion, Air and Nemesis, in the shade.

And for those adrenalin junkies who can’t wait for next year, you can experience a taste of what is to come by taking on The Sanctuary, a new attraction at the resort that is part of this year’s Scarefest. The scaremaze invites guests to book an appointment at an abandoned facility, but a terrifying twist in the form of sinister medical staff and confused patients awaits. It is based around the concept of a medical institution which has been reopened after a 50 year hiatus. Katherine Duckworth, head of consumer marketing at Alton Towers, said: "Details of the new ride coming to the theme park in 2013 are still a closely-guarded secret but we know that people are hugely excited about its arrival and want a hint of what is to come. "The Sanctuary is set to make Scarefest more terrifying than ever, and give our guests the chance to experience a preview of our new ride before it opens to the public in March."

Scarefest 2012, which runs from October 19 to 31, also sees the return of Terror Of The Towers and travelling circus Carnival Of Screams. For more information visit altontowers.com.
