America Ferrera has jitters ahead of 'Chicago' debut

Tuesday November 1, 2011

The transition from screen to stage is enough to test even the most experienced of actors.

It's no surprise then that Ugly Betty star, America Ferrera, has admitted that she is nervous about her turn as Roxie Hart in the West End musical, Chicago.

"The main reason I wanted to do this was... it was going to force me to confront a lot of fears and obstacles and it's certainly doing that, challenging me," she said.

America is following in the footsteps of stars such as Denise Van Outen and pop star Ashlee Simpson, who have previously played the femme fatale.

Despite her nerves, the actress added that she was intrigued by the allure of Roxie Hart's character.

"I wouldn't say she is a role model for how we should base our morals and what we want out of life"

"But she is wonderful to watch and wonderful to play in the sense that she is just exactly who she is."

America will pull on her fishnets at London's Garrick Theatre starting from November 7.
