Nelly Furtado has revealed she is giving a £615,000 fee she earned for performing for Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi to charity.
The singer tweeted: "In 2007 I received $1 million from the Gaddafi clan to perform a 45-minute show for guests at a hotel in Italy. I am going to donate the money."
With the current political unrest in Libya human rights groups and music industry insiders have warned performers that they risk their reputation unless they give up fees paid by the ruler.
Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Usher and 50 Cent are among the stars facing criticism for putting on shows for the Libyan's family and inner circle.
